What is Sudoku?

Sudoku is a popular number puzzle game that involves filling a 9×9 grid with numbers so that each column, each row, and each of the nine 3×3 subgrids (known as “regions” or “boxes”) contains all the digits from 1 to 9, with no repetition. The puzzle starts with some numbers already filled in, and your task is to use logic and deductive reasoning to complete the grid.

How to Play Sudoku?

Setup: You start with a partially filled 9×9 grid. Some cells already contain numbers.

Objective: The goal is to fill in the entire grid with numbers from 1 to 9, following the rules mentioned above.

Rules:

  1. Each row must contain all the numbers from 1 to 9, with no repetition.
  2. Each column must contain all the numbers from 1 to 9, with no repetition.
  3. Each of the nine 3×3 subgrids (regions or boxes) must contain all the numbers from 1 to 9, with no repetition.

Winning: You’ve successfully completed a Sudoku puzzle when you’ve filled in the entire grid following the rules, and there are no violations (no repeated numbers in rows, columns, or regions).

How To Solve Sudoku When Stuck?

How to solve easy or hard Sudoku puzzles?

  1. Start by examining the partially filled grid. Look for rows, columns, or regions with the fewest missing numbers, as these are often good places to begin.
  2. Identify numbers that can be deduced based on the existing numbers and the rules. For example, if a row already has the numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 8, the missing number must be 7.
  3. Use a pencil to lightly write down possible numbers in the empty cells if you’re unsure. You can later erase them as you make progress.
  4. Work systematically through the grid, using logic and process of elimination to fill in as many numbers as possible.
  5. Look for cells where only one number is possible based on the current state of the puzzle. This can often help you unlock other parts of the grid.
  6. Continue filling in numbers and checking for errors. Remember that each number you place must adhere to the rules of Sudoku.
  7. Be patient and persistent. Some Sudoku puzzles are more challenging than others and may require advanced solving techniques.

Sudoku puzzles come in various levels of difficulty, ranging from easy to extremely challenging. Solving Sudoku puzzles is not only an enjoyable pastime but also a great way to exercise your logical and analytical thinking skills. You can find Sudoku puzzles in newspapers, books, magazines, and various online Sudoku apps and websites
